Angela Birchett is a dynamic vocalist, actor on the musical stage, and recording artist. Since deciding to follow her dreams of musical theatre to New York City, Angela has captivated audiences in several regional and U.S. touring productions and as Motormouth Maybelle on the national tour of Hairspray (2007-2009). In 2010 she traveled to Istanbul with the show, Grease, as well as currently reprising her role as Motormouth in theaters throughout the country. In 2009, Angela released her debut CD, Where I’ve Been, a collection of songs from various musicals and roles in which she’s performed since 2005. Her career shows no signs of slowing down!

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Angela embraced her calling to sing and act at an early age. After singing her first solo at home church, Greater Grace Temple, she knew that she was destined to perform. She began weekly drum lessons at the age of 8. At 12 years old, Angela was the youngest member of the Detroit Symphony Civic orchestra; and at 14, she was cast in the professional production of Purlie, the youngest cast member to play Missy, one of the oldest characters in the play.

Angela is a classically trained vocalist and experienced educator. She possesses two bachelor's degrees from Kentucky State University, in Music Education and Vocal Performance. As a member of  the university's Opera Music Theatre Workshop, Concert, and Show Choirs, Angela performed in productions Slow Dusk, Once on this Island, Carmen Jones and Blue Monday to name a few. She also received the prestigious honor of being crowned Miss Kentucky State University, placing third in the Miss National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame pageant in 2000.

Following graduation in 2002, Angela returned to Detroit Michigan and established the choral department at Paul Roberson Academy. In the years following her time there, a number of her former students have also been drawn into performance, pursuing university training and careers in musical theater, recording arts, modeling and acting. Clearly, Angela's love of the stage is infectious!

For Angela, sharing her gifts and talents is not about a singular destination or an ultimate goal. With her faith in God and her passion for performance, Angela is committed to the lifelong pursuit of integrity as an actor, warmth and honesty as a singer and humility as a performer and is loving every minute of it!
